Aromatic aster is a perennial plant often found in rock outcrops and dry woodlands on limestone and calcareous shale. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. It can grow to 3 feet tall with very showy flowers that bloom in the summer. It was selected as the 2000 North Carolina Wildflower of the Year by the North Carolina Botanical Garden.
